I wasn’t expecting worthy from this movie due to its unfamiliar title and what I felt was an awkward animation style. Plus I was an avid Hayao Miyazaki fan, and I did not absorb any anime movie could overcome the feel-goodness of his movies in general. I was very substandard.

“The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” (or “Toki wa Kakeru Shoujo”) is about a girl named Makoto Konno who, after a unusual encounter in a lab after school discovers she has the power to “jump” through time. Literally.

Although it started off lifeless, the fling made the hackneyed idea of time jumping remarkable more fresh. Not to mention the main characters were all extremely likable and realistic. I couldn’t attend but root for Makoto in whatever crazy things she distress up doing in the past. The things she went wait on to change were trivial things, like a test she failed, or when her friend Chiaki confessed to her. They are all things that ordinary, idiotic people like ourselves would do if we had that power. This record is only something the Japanese could arrive up with, and I commemorate director Mamoru Hosoda for blending mundane Japanese life with such a fantastical idea like time disappear. It’s warm, comic, and touching. That is, for the first half.

The second half of the film takes a hugely dramatic turn. It’s almost mind-blowing in the design things played out. For spoiler fans, it has something to do with Chiaki (You know, the friend who confessed to her? ) . Anyways, I loved this shift in the position, even though it lost some of its precious feel-good elements along the plan. Makoto calm managed to support some humor in her crazy ventures, and her personality is not lost in the residence twist. Chiaki’s transformation though, I’m calm a bit iffy about.

I deem this movie is draw up there with Miyazaki’s films. The perfect blend of fantasy and feel-goodness, along with some dry humor as well makes for an worthy film. I also felt myself warming up to the animation style as well, which was very contemporary, so I wasn’t weak to it, but I’m now completely in worship with it. “Time waits for no one” so go glimpse this movie!

When I achieve The Girl Who Leapt Through Time into my DVD player, I expected a very estimable albeit light anime movie. What I got instead was an emotional experience which might be the most racy anime movie I’ve seen so far.

Makoto Konno is a slightly clumsy tomboy on the verge of the age upright when teens launch looking at the opposite sex differently whose priority is hanging out with her two best buddies - cheeky but endearing Chiaki Mamiya and evenheaded, gentlemanly Kosuke Tsuda. But when things initiate progressing to slightly more serious matters and she takes a series of jumps in a dismay when she realizes that one of her best guys is about to say something to her privately that will acquire them to a situation from which they can’t approach help that she isn’t determined she’s ready to go, things engage a shadowy turn and spiral out of control - and she finds that this time, she might not be able to fix what she’s done…

Part sci-fi with a orderly twist that anyone who isn’t familiar with the source material probably won’t glimpse coming and allotment teen drama with an achingly fair depiction of that distinguished time in life and personal development, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a warm, poignant work that should be in the collection of any anime fan.

Sandler goes relieve to his juvenile roots with this one. That is not a awful thing in my book, I salvage Billy Madison and Joyful Gilmore a riot. In this movie, Sandler plays Zohan. Zohan is a tough as nails Israeli intelligence operative who fakes his death because he is sick of all the violence in the Middle East. He goes to America to become a hair dresser because he wants everyone to have silky composed hair. Not every joke works, but the laughable situations advance snappy and mad. If one doesn’t collect you, then maybe the next one will. Yes it is fair plain and juvenile stuff, but I found most of the movie silly. If you like his first movies, then this one is for you.

Well, clearly, not everyone has the same sense of humor. You’ve got to coast Disbelief suitable out the door with “You don’t mess with Zohan,” but if you fair need a fun summer flick and you have a very twisted sense of humor, this could be it.

If you do not have this material, or most of it, from previously issued DVDs this is a expansive offer. The two DVDs possess about as distinguished bang for your buck as possible for lovers of Nature programing. The only quibble I have is that the quality of film varies a bit more than suggested in the product summary above. Too, with more exposure to the brilliance of today’s HD, earlier films, even those only a few years conventional, spy less and less amazing, and more and more dated. The double sword of technology - our world now can be seen in even greater spell-binding cinematography, but our previous efforts lose their current luster. However, with these films the charming and smart storylines add an additional dimension often lacking in such documentaries. Indeed, these are about as varied and glowing a group as anyone could wish. Sure sequences remain priceless.

And if you’re a bird watcher and don’t have these films on the Birds of Paradise or the Bowerbirds this is your DVD!

This may not be as worthy as “Life of Birds,” but it’s a satisfactory addition to the David Attenborough portion of your video library. Spellbinding footage of exotic birds with eccentric behavior. Trips to Easter Island and unexplored sections of Papua Recent Guinea. Best of all, a brilliant narrator who knows when to shut up and when to lisp. What more could you want? Recommended without reservation of any kind.

What this means is that there will be 14 episodes left unreleased from the recent(4th) season. Hopefully they will release those after the season and then maybe they can unbiased release tubby seasons instead of these partial season “volumes” we have been getting(at elephantine season prices, might I add) . As far as the demonstrate itself…….well, my title says it best! In it’s 4th season, the reveal continues to regain better and better every week. The episode “Tearjerker” is probably the best one on this site. It is the one parodying the James Bond Movies. As great as I loved the Family Guy Star Wars Parody, in my humble idea, this is far excellent. My only bone to hold with the writers is that Klaus seems to be former a minute less than in the early episodes. This situation will also gain the usual bonus features ( Deleted Scenes, Commentary, Unrated/Uncensored Episodes, etc.)

BTW To those wondering about the future of the expose, FOX has extended this exhibit for a 5th season!

UPDATE: I picked up my copy today and one puny impress for the few that might care. The packaging is different from the first 3 Volumes. The case is smaller, the size of a single dvd case with three slots inside for the discs.

Another expansive season from another mountainous series. American Dad unprejudiced gets better with age. I consider the show’s creators really luxuriate in these characters and its shows in such episodes as “Oscar Gold” and “Pulling Double Booty.” In these episodes, mountainous personas like Jeff and Roger really catch to approach forward and recall the explain to the next level. True, you have to accept past the blackface make-up, the shimmering red lips, the erroneous eyelashes; but once that surface is common, a large performance is there to be appreciated. Olivier is the blackest Othello I’ve ever seen, the most ‘African’, in his movements, the wilds of his emotion, the warrior-like curses and threats as he beats his chest and curses his fate. Many plan it was a ham acting, excruciatingly over the top; for me it was a plucky, risky performance, walking the line between anxiety and pity throughout. His roar is extraordinary and his delivery recent and musical and grisly and tender. I understanding it was his bravest, and greatest, performance. I’m cheerful it was recorded as a filmed play and not ‘opened up’ as a movie, which would have diluted the intensity of the performance. Highly recommended, with the above caveats about the makeup.

I had seen Kozintsev’s King Lear years ago and was very impressed but only saw this film recently after ordering the DVD. The DVD transfer is edifying, remarkable better than the King Lear DVD available from the same company. The film has very high production values and an unbelievable pick up by the detached controversial Shostokovich. itself is an ear opener. This interpretation is very great about Hamlet as an action hero, and Kosintesev conveys the force and limits of Hamlet’s agency with unbelievable economy. Claudius’s speech begins the film after shots of the ocean (quoting obtain Olivier’s film of Hamlet) Hamlet racing support for the funeral, and a soldier reads the speech as a proclamation to the crowd outside. We slice to the court where ambassadors and courtiers are translating it into German and French, and then near in the courtroom where Claudius finishes it. We watch Hamlet listening at the beginning of this shot, but after Laertes and Claudius say and Claudius addresses Hamlet, we track serve to his chair and perceive that it is empty. Ophelia, through the soundtrack music, becomes an increasingly mechanical dancer as she goes exasperated. It’s not a masterpiece along the lines of “The Wizard of Oz” or “Meet Me in St. Louis.” Some may judge it infamous to such MGM glitz as “The Ziegfeld Girl” (which is gorgeous and a milestone in the careers of Lana Turner and Judy Garland) .

But it is what it is and interesting and cheerful invent up a lot of that.

It’s the first and only time that MGM paired tap queen Eleanor Powell with Fred Astaire (modern at MGM from some beautiful films at RKO with Ginger Rogers) . Nevertheless, the recent pairing produced one of the titanic musical moments in film history (more below) .

It’s also fresh in that it’s one of the few times Alfred Newman, longtime 20th Century-Fox music department head and master composer/conductor (he’s possibly one of the greatest conductors EVER) supervised a musical film at another studio prior to taking over at Fox in 1940. Newman previously supervised the music, along with Roger Edens, for MGM musicals “Born to Dance”, and “Broadway Melody of 1936″, plus various films for both Fox and Samuel Goldwyn.

The space, today, seems typically trite for that period. Astaire, a expansive hoofer in a lousy gig, has a crush on Powell, a broad Broadway star. He sneaks in to her shows to observe her do a production number when he’s not performing with his partner, George Murphy. One night, as he and Murphy are dancing, a bumbling fool of a Broadway angel — adeptly portrayed by Frank Morgan — sees the two tappers and gets right angry about the prospect of forwarding Astaire to auditions to co-star with Powell in a recent display. Astaire, trying to relieve his buddy out, and having inaccurate Morgan for a bill collector, gives Morgan his buddy’s name when they meet. Later, it’s Murphy who gets a call to go audition and Astaire helps pick up him ready. Murphy lands the role and his head swells, and Powell learns that it’s Astaire who…and on and on and lots of backstage drama ensues until magic time.

George Murphy is endearing in this film — both as a wannabe tough guy and as a sensitive slob timorous of failure. Murphy had risen to “leading man” space in a number of MGM “B” pictures, and I sense (rightly or wrongly) a bit of ‘make-or-break’ urgency in his portrayal that I attribute to his finally getting a leading role in a grand MGM musical with Powell and Astaire. To me, he seems more comfortable when he’s playing tough with Astaire than he does when he’s actually singing and dancing with Powell (who probably intimidated him as she was a mighty bigger star than he) .

Morgan’s character has a buddy, too — a white chinchilla cape that seems to have quite a history on the shoulders of starlets he either dates or encounters during the film.

The music is Cole Porter and it’s miraculous.

The overture is fabulous. The pacing of the music must have been a colossal challenge to the musicians that made up the MGM orchestra of the gradual 30s and early 40s (it was not the world-class outfit that Johnny Green would pull together at the destroy of the decade) . From the opening notes, you acquire a sense of stout urgency — all the pictures about NYC and Broadway you ever saw all rolled into one hyperkinetic several minutes of music.

But the fact remains that she was a MAJOR star at MGM and Astaire belief her amazingly gifted (sadly, she didn’t have his creative flair for invention) . Eleanor danced splendid noteworthy the same plot in each film, with her signature backdrop-handtouch to the floor. She had a microscopic hiss, but a ravishing face with a aesthetic smile and she made the world seem magical.

She did everything asked of her…with smiles and determination and earnestness.

The “I’ve Got My Eyes on You” number Astaire does on the empty stage, using Powell’s powder puff as his dancing “partner” is inspired. And he and Powell give us a glance of what’s coming when they do that minute tap number at the outdoor cafe.

But let’s be absolutely determined about the merits of this film. Its position in cinema (musical) history is assured with the finest tap dancing prove ever committed to film…and possibly ever created for any medium…and that is the “Inaugurate the Beguine” number toward the destroy of the film. It’s a jazzy intention and Astaire and Powell — reflected in a sad knowing floor — tap their hearts out in one of the most ravishing terpsichorean displays of athleticism and art ever seen. It’s an AWESOME number.

The earlier artsy stuff is a cramped too cute (along with the meant-to-be-sincere delivery of lines by Powell in those backstage moments as Astaire worries with Murphy) . “I Concentrate on You” has been better served in many other films, so it’s operatic presentation here should not be mourned.

But it’s more than made up for by the glittering delights and leaps to delirium provided by Astaire and Powell AND Murphy when they’re tapping.

The film was a major danger and preserves a moment in film history that will never be equalled.

If you adore the movie “Chicago”, you will admire “The Broadway Melody of 1940″. It’s got the best tap dance sequences in movie history and a Cole Porter music bag. The best dances in my view are “Open the Beguine” and “The Jukebox Dance”. This depraved movie musical stars Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell; two of the best dancers of the 20th century or any century. The tale is cute, and typical: boy meets girl, they attach on a note and plunge in savor.

The chemistry between Powell and Astaire is notably tense, but as the movie goes along it gets better. For history buffs: Ms. Powell and Mr. Astaire were perfectionists; outstanding in their craft. Eleanor Powell was the only female dancer at MGM to choreograph all her routines, and Fred Astaire at times did his maintain or with Hermes Pan. They were in horror of each other; but during rehersals for this movie, they stopped all the formal talk
and got down to hoofing like two hoofers should.

The film isn’t perfect, some characters aren’t fleshed out and “satisfied” people will no doubt have a lot of misfortune connecting to its chronicle line. Also, David’s parents are a bit one-dimensional and felt like they were minor status devices to emphasize David’s tortured conscience. The film however, does a lot more things apt than execrable. I rather belief that it was very ingenious for the screenplay to indicate David as an adult apprehensive with his past nightmare, and how he has never forgotten his childhood friend; Meg. That up to this day, he wants to do something beneficial to another being even at the sign of his acquire life.

“The Girl Next Door” is not a film for everyone. Controversial and disturbing to its core, the film will no doubt offend a lot of viewers but if you gape at the subtle messages instead of the graphic scenes, viewers will learn to indulge in what the film’s premise is all about. This film is an unrelenting eye at human dread that will halt with the viewer for a long time to near. Forget monsters, vampires, demons and werewolves, the scariest thing may unprejudiced be occurring legal next door…

Not shining anything about the book I walked in to this expecting a fun and creepy alarm film. What I got was easily one of the most unforgettable film experiences I’ve ever had. Evil and disturbing without ever being trashy. As a matter of fact, the most improbable thing about the film is how tall the direction and performances are. The woman who plays Ruth creates one of the most unpleasant monsters in film history. Hats off to the rest of the cast and crew for making a film that’s going to occupy me a while to shake off. I’m not gonna go into details of the sage. All I’m saying is Gawk IT. You won’t be sorry you did.
